One of the best ice skating rinks in NYC is Citi Pond in Bryant Park. It's free to skate and if you don't have your own skates (and why would you, especially if you are just visiting), skate rentals are $14. They offer free lockers for your personal items, but the lock will cost you $9. The surrounding park is filled with Christmas shopping stalls, warm food and good feelings.
Rockefeller Center will set you back anywhere from $10-20 admission (depends on when you go) and $10 for skate rentals. Still, it is a charming location.
