Today in 1919, the African-American baseball player Jackie Robinson, was born. Robinson was not only a great athlete, but changed American history when he signed on with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, and in doing so, shattered the big-league color barrier forever.

One-hundred years earlier, Henry Ward Beecher, the world renowned minister was preaching the evils of slavery to the congregation at Plymouth Church, sometimes referred to as the Grand Central Depot of the Underground Railroad.
