Gateway National Recreation Area has four public campsites available at Floyd Bennett Field. (A subway and bus ride from central Manhattan). Fee of $50 for three nights. For more information, call 718-338-3799. Urban Park Rangers, a division of NYC Parks and Recreation bureau offers free family camping Friday and Saturday nights in July and August. Sounds cool right?!?! But there is a catch. It is by lottery only and there are about a total of 100 spots for the entire summer. You have a better chance of winning the New York State lottery!
